Green shouldn't turn up ice while staring at the corner. He pretty much turned into Orr. Orr didn't need to cross-check Green, but Orr could have kept his stick down and put a shoulder into Green's head and it would have been legal.

Shouldn't have been an instigator though.

They just did a replay and discussion of the hit on NHL on the Fly. I'll admit that until I saw the replay, I thought Orr had done it on purpose. But the hosts discussed how the puck was in the air and both Green and Orr were looking at it and weren't looking at each other. Orr saw he was going into Green at the last second and put his hands up as a reaction and of course with him being much bigger, Green went down, especially since he had no idea he was going to be hit. They said Orr isn't the type of player to go after a star in a 6-1 game, so even though at first glance they thought it was really bad and suspendable, after they slowed it down, they changed their mind.

Exactly. Don't get me wrong, if I'm Green and get kabonged like that I'd slash at Orr too, and if I'm Mo' I'd go after him. But the replay seemed clear to me that it was "just one of them racin' deals," as they say.

I don't buy it for one second. I think Orr absolutely knew what he was doing. Orr was facing Green the entire time, and the puck was knocked into the air at the same time Orr hit Green, so there goes the theory that Orr was looking up in the sky for the puck, because he was nowhere near catching it. Meyers was the one batting it away.

And Orr isn't the type of player to do that? Really? They'll say anything on NHL On the Fly and people will believe it. Orr has done this before, when the Rags were up 3-0 over the Caps in New York. He cross checked Ovechkin in the neck/upper chest.

Yeah, it's one of those heat of the moment plays, but I still think Orr knew exactly what he was doing, which was a high cross check. Watch the slow motion in the replays, especially the 2nd and 3rd angle replays. Looked intentional to me.

So Orr wouldn't have been looking at the puck just because he wasn't within arms' reach of it? Have you ever played hockey? At any rate, Orr's head was quite clearly not turned in Green's direction. He might have been looking at Green out of the corner of his eye, but his head was facing the direction of the puck.

I never said Orr isn't the type to lay a dirty hit. I know he is. This didn't look like that type of play to me. Cross-checking someone in the chest isn't particularly dirty, anyway. If he wanted to be a dick, he could have hit him up high. He could have put his shoulder onto Green's chin.

I've watched 'em. Looks like plays I've been involved with in a roller hockey league, where some guy has his head down and turns right into me. Happens.

Yes it happens, I see it all the time. Orr lifted his arms to cushion the impact and got them up higher than he probably needed to, which was enough for the 2 minutes but nothing dirty there like so many here seem to think. And I hate Colten Orr but this incident will not add to that for me.

I am more worried about the atrocious offside calls against us in the third period. Ovechkin's breakaway one was offside but barely but there were 2 others right after that which were not really all that close that those morons blew. I don't care what the score is, call it like it is!

Random notes.

1. Huge in-game entertainment fails last night. 1st, the anthem singer had written notes for O Canada.
2. 2nd, PKs are now sponsored, as noted in another thread.
3. 3rd, The Astronaut now has a an in-game video feature and spent some time in Ted's box.
4. On the ice, things were better. Carlson...very solid and clearly unafraid to look for his own shot.
5. Attention opposing goalies -- if you leave the crease, Knuble will go in behind you and start building a house there.
6. Only a few Toronto fans, and they were very scattered. I don't know that there were any groups--all of the Leafs fans seemed to be with Caps fans.
7. Best new Aramark idea -- putting lids on beers. Has saved my purchase several times already.
